Numbers
What can we do with numbers?

Cereal abacos
I made these abacocs with plastic plates and cereals.
I also
made some counting bracelettes for them to count and eat!
You can also estimate how many cereals are in the box. Then you
can sort them by colour.

Book of numbers
Make a book of numbers. Invite children to cut from old
magazines a specific number of pictures

Use traditional songs and chants to introduce and practise
numbers

Counting ribbons
I prepared these ribbons. Added a label and asked children to
paste as many small objects as the number said.

Dice
I prepared this game for the veggie unit. Children rolled the
dice and place as many veggies as the dice said
This is another version of the same game but with tools

Use sensory stuff to make numerals
Some sensory
materials you can use:
water
(warm, cool, scented, coloured, soapy)
ice
cubes
finger-paint
shaving
cream
mud,
dirt, potting soil
bubble mixture
clay
rice,
pasta, flour, cornstarch, salt, dried beans,
peas,
cereals, seeds,
cloth, cotton, ribbons

Number path
You will need:
·
chalk
· a dice
· a playing piece or counter
Draw a simple path in the playground.
Ask children roll a dice and move their playing
piece the number of times they roll.
Play continues until they reach the end of the
"path".
You can use numeral dice or you can use a dotted
dice.
If you work on numbers when they land on a
number ask them to name the identify it.
